ABSTRACT

Reducing the blasting noise associated with using high explosives on reinforced concrete structures were carried out using sand coverage. Cylindrical shaped charges of two types were used for blasting concrete blocks with reinforcing H-shaped steel and for cutting steel plates and rods. The sand coverage was found to be very effective for reducing the blast noise. The relationships among the noise and depth of the sand, weight of the explosives and the distance from the point of explosions were examined. Useful information was obtained regarding the successful crashing and cutting of the constituents.
