ABSTRACT

Experimental blastings of model concrete pillars were carried out in order to obtain information on the blasting demolition of reinforced concrete pillars used by the Hausing Corporation apartment houses. The blastings were done in two steps : first, the concrete block was exploded by the blasting with internal loading of dynamite, and second, the remaining reinforcing rods were cut using cylindrical shaped charges of high detonation velocity. It was found that the blasting with plural bore holes are better for avoiding the blown out shot. Also, rubber sheets suspended near-by the concrete surfaces are effective for protecting from scattering of fragments. Lastly, using sand to cover the shaped charges can remarkably suppress the noise of blasting.
