ABSTRACT

Properties of recycled aggregate from concrete were examined. Three different concretes with water cement ratios of 0.45, 0.55, and 0.68 were produced, and they were crushed with a jaw crusher so that aggregates whose maximum size was 25 mm were obtained. The crushed concrete was divided into fine and coarse aggregates, and basic properties of the aggregates were examined. The amount of cement paste in the aggregates was tested for each grading of the aggregates. The results showed that properties of the recycled concrete aggregate were not influenced by the strength of the source concrete, and their properties could not be better than the properties of the original aggregate because the cement paste remained on the recycled concrete aggregate. When the recycled concrete aggregate was stirred in a mixer, better quality of aggregate could be got.
