Polyethylene, with one of the simplest molecular structures, is the world’s largest tonnage thermoplastic [1] and a material about which more has probably been written than any other polymer. It is manufactured by the polymerization of ethylene monomer to essentially (—CH₂—CH₂—) _n of high molecular weights.
