ABSTRACT

Modified chemical vapour deposition (CVD) has been introduced to deposit yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) on porous ceramic media. Experimental results indicate that deposition of YSZ occurred inside pores resulting in a pore narrowing and eventually a pore closure, which was determined by using permporometry. However, deposition on top of porous ceramic substrates will not reduce the average pore size. After pore closure, the following electrochemical vapour deposition (EVD) process results in growing of YSZ layers on top of porous ceramic media.
