ABSTRACT

The oxidation of two 9wt%Cr-lwt%Mo steels in CO2 have been examined using analytical electron microscopy. The two steels have significantly different rates of oxidation and also have slight differences in composition. In particular, Steel B has a higher Si concentration than Steel A. The microstructure of the oxide scale on the two steels was similar but the distribution and type of precipitates beneath the oxide/metal interface was found to be significantly altered by the small changes in composition.
