ABSTRACT

The concept of the digital twin (DT) has been increasingly researched for the past 20 years, as its potential is large and untapped. Its application in the pharmaceutical industry is no exception to this. However, given the complexity of the industry and its strict control by regulatory agencies, the concept is still considerably less developed than in other sectors. This chapter presents the current paradigm in terms of DTs applied to the pharmaceutical industry, delving more deeply into DTs applied to pharmaceutical supply chains and pharmaceutical management. Current applications are detailed and expected research directions are proposed.
