ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used in online learning because of its advantage in personalised and automated instruction-based learning. Students and instructors have found significant advantages and disadvantages when AI is integrated into online education. To assess the impacts, a survey was conducted with 25 students and instructors who gave their responses based on the satisfaction level of AI exposure. A linear regression analysis was carried out to observe the impact of AI-based technologies in online learning. One independent variable is “times of AI implementation”. The impact of this independent variable was observed on five dependent variables. These are “quality and quantity”, “responsibility”, “support”, “connection” and “surveillance” of online instructors. Findings showed that both students and instructors were satisfied with the quality and quantity of learning materials in education; support was provided by the AI and connection building. However, they received negative experiences as well, which include that AI did not provide valuable responsibility and surveillance. These findings were further analysed and a conclusion was drawn. The chapter provides insight into how incorporating AI into online learning can benefit learner-instructor interactions.
