ABSTRACT

In this paper, an indoor test was carried out on the slurry preparation and thin mud cake formation for slurry shield tunneling through high water pressure and high permeable strata. The slurry mix ratio was investigated based on a field application. The test results showed that for both clay-bentonite and clay-tackifier slurry, improvement of stability could be achieved by the proper increment amount of bentonite and tackifier. In addition, filtration loss can also be reduced during thin mud cake formation. Based on the test results, a slurry mix with excellent mud cake forming performance and low permeability coefficient was developed. The proposed slurry mix meets engineering requirements and has great reference significance for similar projects.
