ABSTRACT

Joint bolt loosening and component breathing cracks are nonlinear damage in a transmission tower structure. A nonlinear damage detection method based on AR/ARCH (autoregressive/ autoregressive/autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity) model and Itakura distance is proposed to solve the nonlinear damage detection issue of a transmission tower structure. First, the AIC (Akaike information criterion) was used to determine the order of the AR/ARCH model, and the AR/ARCH model was constructed according to the structural acceleration data. Then, the Itakura distance was used as the damage indicator to find the damage location. Finally, a transmission tower experiment was carried out. The results show that the proposed method can accurately distinguish the joint bolt loss and component breathing crack of the transmission tower structure and can also accurately detect the single damage source and multiple damage sources state in the transmission tower structure.
