ABSTRACT

To study the influence of side load on the ultimate bearing capacity of the foundation, this paper mainly analyzes the enhancement effect of side load on the ultimate bearing capacity of the foundation and its influence on the foundation properties by combining the field test of the bearing capacity of weathered sandstone foundation and ABAQUS finite element software simulation. The results show that the ultimate bearing capacity of a weathered sandstone foundation can be doubled and the development and connectivity of the plastic zone in the foundation can be limited by the application of side load; The vertical development of stress is stronger than the horizontal development; The settlement in the foundation mainly occurs within 0 m to 2 m, and the vertical stress is mainly distributed within 0 m to 2.2 m depth. The research results can provide help for the foundation design and construction.
