ABSTRACT

Management information system (MIS) is basically a computerized information system for providing appropriate and timely information related to the various functional activities of the concerned organization. Internal data generated within the organization as well as related external data are processed and made available as relevant information to the management. This information helps the various levels of the management to take appropriate and timely action for effective operation and control of the various functional activities of the organization. In this paper, renewable wind energy generation is chosen as the domain organization and an appropriate MIS is developed for supporting the operation and maintenance activities of these wind turbine generators (WTG). The internal data generated from the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and the external data from the environment in which these WTGs are operating are processed and stored in the database system. This information is made available to human machine interface (HMI) and also to the various functional agencies for managing the operation, planning and control of these WTGs. The main advantage of this MIS is knowing the conditions of the various components of the WTG and the overall performance, for taking timely action which eventually increases the operational efficiency. The scope of enhancing the existing MIS by incorporating the emerging trends in Information technology, namely the Industry 4.0 standards are also discussed.
