ABSTRACT

Blockchain is a sophisticated databank system which enables data sharing among a network. It is a decentralized temper-proof system that may store transactions in blocks that are interconnected in a chain form. In recent years, this emerging technology has been adopted in different ways by several businesses to avoid the potential legal issues of traditional databases and overcome their challenges. Healthcare is an interesting field for exploiting the potential of blockchain technology. Pursuant to the legal theory, blockchain is widely used for healthcare data administration especially to enhance data integrity and privacy. In this paper, after presenting the traditional healthcare systems and their issues and the concept of blockchain technology, we review the state of the application of this concept in smart healthcare systems management such as patient data storage, medical image sharing, and patient monitoring. Then we highlight the challenges and issues that slow the adoption of the rising approach in such systems.
