ABSTRACT

The hospitality and tourism industry loses billions to non-financial fraud yearly and is the highest target sector for cyber security. It increases the overall cost, but it also harms companies’ reputations and creates a negative working environment for employees. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain is frequently used successfully in different business sectors and can improve the workflow in the hospitality sector. The technological possibilities of AI and Blockchain can offer a secure option for document fraud, currency exchange and identity theft, only to mention a few. The fundamental principles of blockchain technology and AI will be covered in more detail in this chapter, with an emphasis on the elements that are crucial to understanding the rest of the chapter. It will provide knowledge that academics and professionals will need to better comprehend blockchain technology and apply it to the travel and tourism industry. It will, however, also draw attention to flaws and crucial study areas. An examination of the Blockchain’s potential to disrupt the economy is covered in several ways that could change current market structures and possibly result in the disintermediation of existing players in the tourist sector and the creation of new ones.
