ABSTRACT

The natural resources are playing an important role in human life and water is an essential commodity of human life. The natural resources are crumbling due to lack of carefulness and shortage of water is one of the main issues in the world. In India, 50% water wastage is due to lack of planning management and configuration at ground level. Due to global warming and uncertain climate conditions, it is required to focus on smart water conservation and monitoring systems. Internet of things (IoT) incorporates an imperative role in real-time monitoring, controlling, and automation of water management systems as compared to manual operating systems. It reduces human work and time, enriches productivity, is economical, and provides automated controlling and monitoring systems. It can be used in various sectors like domestic, industrial, and agricultural fields. Recent advancements and innovation in the IoT-based system have improved the efficiency and significance of the proposed system. The main issue of water management is the leakage detection and identifying its location. Water pipeline has received worldwide attention due to the obligation to protect public safety and economical water production. The proposed solution is an integration of soil moisture sensors and Arduino MEGA controller and also collects evidence from various sensors placed in the field using IoT setup on the cloud platform. IoT-based systems are integrated with different smart sensors, cloud storage, and other devices. It is a user-friendly system. This chapter implemented an IoT-based water conservation system for observing and controlling in real time and also identified the leakage location in water pipes and retrieved data using cloud computing of ThingSpeak.
