ABSTRACT

Due to the population density growth in urban environments, the use of new technologies to improve services and supply the requirements of the citizens has become an urgent need. Consequently, a remarkable advancement in digital devices, such as sensors, actuators, smartphones, and smart appliances, has been produced in the last decade. New technologies, such as the internet of things (IoT), have also been developed. As a result of this development, the smart city was born. The “smart city” uses information and communication technology (ICT) to improve operational effectiveness, communicate with residents, and improve the quality of government services and resident interest. This chapter's major goal is to provide an overview of the internet of things and smart cities. In addition, an evaluation of IoT integration in creative city applications has been carried out.
