ABSTRACT

In the context of the digital world, the upcoming technologies in the transportation sector electrify humans for a safe, eco-friendly, and many suitable means of journey in each dimension. Intelligent transportation system modifies transportation at basic and advanced levels by integrating the sensors and suitable PCs inside the vehicles across the travel ecosystem. Today’s transport sector employs a traffic management system that consists of collecting information, transmitting information, and examining data and details about travelers for streaming real-time traffic data. Moreover, driverless auto, cabs, castor, modern subways, hyperloop, and flying taxis are some of the upcoming technologies that will be uprising the globe. Mobility as a service (MAAS) is an arising system that provides bespoke offers, including 48car and bus hire, quicker payment, and planning of the end-to-end trip. From the traveler’s eye, intelligent transport systems (ITS) present a global range of user services to secure toll payment, intelligent parking services, and route guidance. Many ITS systems, including optimizing trips, choice per trip, and lowering dependence on exported oil, pave the route for enhancing air quality and consuming energy in transportation systems. Ecodriving and eco-routing are excellent sustainable techniques for supporting drivers to save fuel usage. This also helps the driving style by delivering real-time feedback and road preferences. Despite numerous advantages of the new energy-efficient technology in ITS, some obstacles hinder performance. These include the growing urbanization, invasion of developing vehicles, shortage of energy storing devices, and enhanced greenhouse gas emissions.

This chapter aims to look at innovative ideas for green transportation, emphasizing investigating sustainable practices in ITS, designing environmentally friendly vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and developing vehicle control technology to avoid crashes.
