ABSTRACT

Flanging is an important metal forming technology and one of the modern component manufacturing techniques in the automotive industry. In this process, the edges of metal sheets are subjected to stretching, which fractures the material. Ensuring fault-free processing requires edge formability analysis, and an effective analysis technique is the hole expansion test. In this chapter, the main aspects of sheet metal edge formability are discussed, including the characteristics and parameters of the flanging process and the results of edge formability testing. Numerical simulation is used to analyze the stress and strain states during the processes of expansion holes.
