ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the values associated with incidental beauty, particularly in creating visual content using generative artificial intelligence networks. When prompted with abstract instructions, the network improvises and combines various elements related to the prompt, resulting in colors, shapes, and compositions that have never been seen before. This algorithmic bias toward creating pleasant forms and colors leads to the emergence of incidental beauty which results from multiple factors coming together in a composition. This incidental beauty is akin to natural beauty, where diverse elements create landscapes of beauty. The value of incidental beauty lies in its ability to inspire and surprise the viewer, offering a sense of discovery and unexpected arrival.
