ABSTRACT

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a recent methodology in the field of computer engineering by which coding and algorithms are developed for executing specific activities that generally need the exceptional intelligence of human beings. Various concepts such as machine learning, neural networks and recognition of speech are involved with AI along with respective capabilities in order to enhance the throughput in the field of medical sciences. In this context, the intervention of human beings can be reduced or simplified with respect to diagnosis, imaging and decision-making by the above systems of intelligence. This review chapter enunciates the evolution and constituents of Healthcare 4.0, the importance of AI and its inevitability to enhance the characteristics and functionalities of different medical devices used in health sectors such as the treatment of diabetes, heart diseases and surgery. The impact of AI on enhancing accuracy in diagnosis, ability in decision-making and assessment of risks are also discussed. Ultimately, this chapter presents the potential of AI by which appropriate medical systems can be designed for Healthcare 4.0.
