ABSTRACT

In the past years, great emphasis has been given to facial attractiveness for both social and professional interactions, where smile aesthetics plays an important role. Facial attractiveness is affected by various components which include eyes, mouth, ears, nose, hairstyle and complexion. Peishan Huang et al. in 2019 studied the attention of laypeople on different facial profiles with altered mandibular protrusion and the effect of facial background attractiveness. A layperson evaluates attractiveness differently than a dentist and overall, both their perception is different from an orthodontist's point of view. In orthodontics, it is very important to understand the regions which affect the overall facial attractiveness to deliver the best treatment plan to the patient. Eye tracking may be used as an important tool for the evaluation of the need for treatment in orthodontics.
