ABSTRACT

Enhancing clean energy usage is the universally accepted pathway toward carbon neutrality, to which global leaders are jointly committed. India is no exception and has set stiff targets to contribute to stabilizing the global climate with local solutions, promising to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. The first step in this effort is a gas-based economy. India aims to increase the share of natural gas (NG) in its energy mix from the present 6.3% to 15% by 2030. However, access to a local distribution network for its affordable, reliable doorstep delivery is a prerequisite. Moreover, a positive response to accepting NG as a clean energy option in the domestic and transport segment is critical to enhancing its consumption. With extensive primary data analysis, the exploratory research examines the various factors for NG consumer acceptability in India’s domestic and transport segments to accelerate the transition to a gas-based economy promoting SDGs.
