ABSTRACT

The article aims to examine the functioning of marital relationships and the problems associated with interpersonal relationships to study the subsequent repercussions in the lives of the selected characters of Cry the Peacock and Where Shall We Go This Summer? It attempts to examine how the operation of personal relationships and societal expectations work together to shape the identity of an individual within the conceptual framework of societal trends, norms, and gazes of men which results in their subsequent disillusionment. Further, the research deals with the journey of neurotic mental state to the ultimate redemption of the protagonists through their frustrations and baffled desires, which leads to marital discord. The overall objective of the article is to outline the causes of the plight of female characters, the expectations, and roles imposed on them, the aspects affecting the marital relationship, and a journey to self-actualization and self-redemption.
