ABSTRACT

Human Development is essentially promoted by sustainability and is not realistic without sustainability. If human development is related to empowering people to lead educated, healthy, and long and fulfilling lives, then sustainable development stands for making sure that future generations can continue doing the same. Human Development Index (HDI) reflects the level of well-being of a nation as it measures the mean achievement of factors that forecast quality of life. It captures the basic socio–economic dimensions of human development namely, Education, Health, and Income which align well and coincides with the goals of sustainable development. This study aims to establish and review the available literature on the interlinkages between the HDI and the SDGs. The HDI covers only the socio-economic aspects of development, leaving scope for including an environmental aspect like a measure of degradation of natural capital necessary to study the relation between the two approaches to development.
