ABSTRACT

People across the globe experienced unprecedented levels of disruption in their homes as well as in the community and society at large in the year 2019 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. The economy had come to a standstill. Many people lost their jobs, and some were retained in their job but were not able to sustain the lifestyle adopted prior to the pandemic. The impact of this pandemic was more seen in the unorganized working class like the domestic workers. Being weakly organizes and lacking any sort of institutional support, domestic workers are extremely vulnerable to exploitation and violations of human rights. Although domestic workers provide essential services, they rarely have access to rights and protection. The current study was undertaken by the researcher to understand the problems and challenges faced by domestic workers during the pandemic. The study is confined to domestic workers from Pune region of Maharashtra state.
