ABSTRACT

Based on the book The Structure of Iki by Kuki Shuzo, this paper analyzes the innovative thinking behind the color of the artistic expression of Iki. This paper discusses the color of Iki through the basic principles of color and, in addition, compares the color of traditional Chinese ink painting with that of the famous paintings of three Ukiyo-e masters of the Edo period. The emotional expression of color used in the works reflects their national emotion, spiritual aspirations, and deep feelings for the land. Through the artistic expression of color, this paper allows students who are new to the field of art to understand that color has the role of emotional change and association; it is also a means for the author to express his inner feelings and spiritual thoughts, create an atmosphere, and so on.
