ABSTRACT

This study investigates the logistics performance of countries using data envelopment analysis (DEA). I use the recent logistics performance index (LPI) 2018 data from the World Bank to accomplish the objective of the study. There are six indicators of LPI: three indicators acting as outputs (i.e., international shipments, timeliness, as well as tracking and tracing) and the other three indicators acting as inputs (i.e., logistics service quality and competence, infrastructure, and customs). DEA with a constant returns-to-scale environment and an input-oriented orientation is used. The results show that Germany is considered the best performer while Niger is the worst performer. As this study allows for international comparisons, it is appropriate to be used as a means of benchmarking, since it compares logistics performance against a set of counterparts in different countries.
