ABSTRACT

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) [1] is implementing short-term measures to improve ship energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption to minimize carbon emissions from shipping. Carbon intensity (CO2 emission/transport work) is to be reduced by 40% in 2030 and by 70% in 2050 compared to 2008. In addition, the EU Green Deal is more ambitious, and it sets two critical targets for GHG reduction to achieve a green economy:

A 2030 deadline to reduce emissions by 55% compared to a 1990 baseline

A 2050 deadline for carbon neutrality
