ABSTRACT

In present study, a sensitivity analysis of hydrodynamic interaction for two ships maneuvering in calm water is performed by an indirect method. A 3 degree of freedom mathematical model (MMG) is used to predict ship motion in the horizontal plane, the hydrodynamic interaction forces are predicted by a code based on potential flow theory where the variation of free surface and fluid viscosity are both neglected. The ship trajectory in the studied maneuver is predicted under the perturbation of the individual hydrodynamic interaction forces and their combination, the output maneuvering parameter is selected with the response of ship maneuvering, the sensitivity index of hydrodynamic interaction in an overtaking maneuver is calculated to determined which interaction forces is necessary to be estimated exactly.
