ABSTRACT

A research laboratory that handles multiple types of cells − primary and cell lines − might not want to use an automated system that would require standardization for different types of cells based on size. Furthermore, some laboratories might not have the financial resource to purchase an automated counter. In this regard, manual count could be done with a hemacytometer that could be reused. This chapter outlines a step-by-step method to manually count cells. We also outline the principle of the formula used to calculate the final cell count. Since the cells are counted visually on the microscope, the procedure is used for any size of cells.
