ABSTRACT

In the recent years, advancement in cyber-physical system (CPS) has left a massive impact on society as well as economy. CPS that integrates physical-, IoT-, and cloud-based infrastructure with embedded systems in order to provide specific services and operations in real time is vulnerable to various forms of attacks and security threats. The amalgamation of physical, cyber, and cloud components in CPS makes it susceptible to various forms of threats and attacks. Decentralization and data processing by human computer interface further pose several security challenges. With the deployment of wireless technology for collecting and processing data using sensor, the security issues of CPS are further aggravated. These security threats range from Denial of Service, non-repudiation of source, illegal disclosure of information, identity spoofing to modification of privileges. The heterogeneity of devices, diversity in the communication technologies, and protocols used in IoT enables the attackers to exploit weakness of CPS. This chapter aims to review various forms of threats, vulnerabilities, attacks, and security challenges in CPS.
