ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the pivotal role of quick response (QR) technology in Industry 5.0. The chapter commences with a comprehensive overview of QR code technology, delving into its fundamentals and diverse applications across industries. Then, it explores recent advancements aimed at increasing the data capacity of QR codes. Innovations in QR code technology are examined, highlighting how these advancements contribute to accommodating larger datasets, a crucial requirement in the data-intensive landscape of Industry 5.0. Particularly, it investigated QR code data capacity enhancement through compression techniques, including Huffman and Lempel-Ziv-Welch. Then, it extends to how QR codes serve as enablers in the interconnected ecosystems of smart manufacturing, IoT, and beyond. Addressing critical concerns, the chapter also investigates the security considerations surrounding QR codes in the Industry 5.0 paradigm and evaluates the potential vulnerabilities and safeguards, providing insights into the secure deployment of QR codes in industrial contexts.
