ABSTRACT

Undoubtedly, the ubiquitous presence of mobile devices, and particularly the indispensable role of smartphones, in our daily lives is undeniable. Projections indicate that the number of mobile devices will soar to a staggering 18.22 billion by 2025, underscoring the escalating reliance on these devices. As the smartphone market thrives, a multitude of manufacturers have joined the competition, each introducing their own distinctive models, often equipped with unique operating systems. Furthermore, the computing capabilities of contemporary smartphones have reached levels that liken them to miniature computers. In a collaborative effort to bridge the gap between desktop computers and smartphones, software developers have diligently created applications that seamlessly operate on both platforms. A noteworthy example of this convergence is the adaptation of Kali Linux, a widely used desktop penetration testing tool for mobile devices, aptly named Kali NetHunter. This evolution reflects the demand for versatile tools that cater to the expanding realm of wireless mobile devices. Consequently, the increased prevalence of wireless mobile devices has underscored the imperative for enhanced wireless network security and more robust penetration testing methodologies. This chapter presents valuable insights into smartphone penetration testing, specifically focusing on enhancing the security of Industry 5.0 mobile applications.
