ABSTRACT

This chapter has presented the best available knowledge about the changing landscape of corporate with the rising impact of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in the area of human resources. The objective of this chapter is to apply this knowledge in the development of a strategic framework to assist students and professionals pursuing human resources to design effective applications in human resources powered by AI.

The discussion in this chapter begins with a brief summary of the inception of AI in general and some theoretical fundamentals of AI like narrow vs. strong AI. It then presents insights into the way AI actually works, with a brief understanding of machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning. This chapter goes on to present the AI tools and techniques in the market today, with special reference to IBM as a key player in the AI industry today. This chapter also talks about how AI is used in human resources through e-recruitment and chatbots, which are virtual HR assistants.

16This chapter focuses on one of the most intriguing applications of AI in today’s HR practices, which is AI-enabled HR analytics. As HR managers are more and more involved in strategic decision-making, AI applications are constantly providing senior managers with deep-hidden insights into employee engagement and behaviours. The AI-enabled HR analytics applications give real-time action-oriented insights to today’s HR managers on issues like productivity, motivation, moods and emotions. This chapter discussed such AI-based HR analytics interventions as text analytics. The rich content of textual data has great business insights, and it has the power to influence people-centric opinions in an organization. Sentiment analysis is one such application of text analytics for business intelligence which has a great scope of application in human resources and is discussed in detail in this chapter. Sentiment analysis involves the process of applying natural language processing (NLP), which has been briefly discussed in the concluding part of the chapter. This chapter concludes with the future scope of AI and HR practices. These inputs would help HR professionals to streamline their theoretical and practical know-how about the way AI is changing the human resources domain.
