ABSTRACT

Skill development has gained focus in the corporate sector as skills are among the top three external forces that impact the business next to technology and market factors. Corporates are waking up to the criticality of skill and the adverse impact of skill gaps as skills can have a direct impact on the company’s ROI. With an effective system of skill development, human resources can be developed which can translate into increased productivity and ultimately the development of the nation.

Artificial intelligence has created a radical disruption in the world of work. It can address many issues about skill development training like innovative training and learning practices. It can amplify technology, make datadriven analysis for faster decisions and help in working smarter and faster, and achieve better outcomes.

The earlier traditional jobs are now efficiently and cost-effectively done through AI-powered systems/robotic process automation/humanoids. Industries need new skill sets to handle such AI-powered machines/systems and match with AI as conventional skills are no longer sufficient or relevant; hence the need for skill development for re-positioning/upgrading/ upskilling.

66This research paper endeavours in understanding (i) the relationship between artificial intelligence and skill development and (ii) how artificial intelligence is impacting skill development training in India.

The research paper has made exploratory and descriptive research and made an in-depth analysis based on available secondary data collected from the web, books/journals/magazines, news media and government portals.

The researchers finally concluded that to match the disruption due to the technological advancement of AI, the skill development system needs to be prepared and equipped to respond and match the required emerging skills. How human interacts with AI-powered machines keeps on changing which recommend the need for skill development to be inbuilt and navigate these interactions to grow so that workers/trainees do not remain excluded/ exploited.
