ABSTRACT

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. The rhizome of the plant is used every day for culinary purposes. It is a household spice crop in India. The tip of the blades shows yellowing of leaves spreading downward leading to drooping and hanging down of leave and death of infected plants. Basal part of the plant exhibits pale translucent colour which soon turns to water soaked and soft. The initial stage of the disease is the appearance of the small spindle to oval or elongated spots mainly on younger leaves. These water-soaked spot-on leaves soon turn into white spots surrounded by dark brown margins and a yellow halo.
