ABSTRACT

The genus Coffea is common habitat in Africa and a number of species are scattered in West, Central and East Africa. Agaric or Hymenomycete root rot is one of the serious reasons for the decline of mature coffee trees. They are prevalent throughout the world, but most commonly occur in cooler areas of the tropics, thus C. arabica tends to be more susceptible to this disease. One of the most devastating diseases coffee rust causes up to 45% economic losses. The severity of this disease has resulted in the shifting of cultivation to other crops apart from coffee in many pockets of coffee cultivation worldwide. The disease development and dissemination are favoured by warm temperature, rainy weather and high relative humidity. Also, the presence of the vector helps in the quick spread of the disease. Destroying and burning infected berries can prevent the inoculum build-up in the plantation.
