ABSTRACT

Coriander is a thin stemmed small bushy herb which belongs to Apiaceae family. It is widely used as a seasoning throughout the world. This chapter gives a brief account of the major diseases of coriander and its effective management strategies. Early symptoms of the disease appear as a white powdery mass of fungal spores on the surface of the leaves and tender shoots. In case of severe infection, the entire plant turns white with a powdery coating. A dry condition is most favourable for the growth and development of the pathogen. While the spores of powdery mildew fungi are killed and germination is inhibited by the presence of water on plant surfaces for extended periods. The incorporation of sufficient organic amendment in the soil is found effective in reducing the disease incidence. Seed treatment with fungicides like Captaf, captan, and Bavistin at the rate of 0.2% eradicates the seed-borne pathogens.
