ABSTRACT

Leaves are pinnate and feather-shaped, and the inflorescence consists of female and male axillary flowers. Coconut is used as food, medicine, beverage, fuel, natural fiber, wood and raw materials for units producing goods. Coconut diseases are an important role in production of palm that reduced yields of coconut in India. Basal stem rot causes significant damage to coconut and other perennial crops, including areca nut, oil palm, agro-forestry trees and tea, especially in Asia. Coconut palms in the age group of 10–30 years are easily attacked by the pathogen. The disease spread from the infection towards the periphery in a concentric fashion, at the rate of 0.2 to 4.8 per cent annual. Various cultural and nutritional management measures were studied for management of basal rot. Pathogen starts developing at the onset of the rainy season and causes primary infection. The symptoms develop dark brown patches at the basal portion of the trunk.
