Introduction

The technological growth in autonomous vehicles and systems has been rapid in the last three decades. This introductory chapter provides a brief history of autonomous vehicles after summarizing the different levels of autonomy. Following that, it provides a brief overview of the chapters covering the different aspects of research and development toward realizing autonomous vehicles.
