ABSTRACT

Sustainability is a buzzword in today’s world. The air, the water, and the soil need to be preserved for future generations, which necessitates a careful look into the sustainable aspects in each engineering discipline, including textiles. Textile chemical processing utilises plenty of water and energy, discharges a large quantity of heavy-load effluents, and utilises some toxic chemicals. Moreover, the working environments might be unhealthy, and all ethical guidelines may not be followed. This necessitates the application of best available practices leading to the ultimate sustainability in textile chemical processing. The chapter summarises the various aspects involved in the sustainable processing of textiles.
