ABSTRACT
The chapter briefly describes the conventional textile printing process and its challenges, and how the transfer printing process served as a pre-cursor to the development and growth of inkjet printing of textiles. The fundaments of inkjet printing, the types of inks and the complexities involved, the dynamics of drop formation and the importance of pre-printing treatment and post-printing requirements have been briefly covered. Also discussed are the print head complexity and essential machine elements.
