ABSTRACT

Breast cancer (BC) globally represents a major health concern, especially for women. From the discovery of novel drugs to the examination of new drug combinations, new ways to tackle this dreadful disease are being researched. One such solution is provided by metronomic chemotherapy (MCT). The outcome of several studies has regarded MCT as a new therapeutic method to combat many cancers, especially BC. One of the highly examined tumors for MCT is probably BC. It is intended to reduce the symptoms of the disease as well as to enhance the quality of life in subjects with metastatic disease. It is an excellent option in place of traditional chemotherapy both in terms of efficacy and fewer side effects. The various processes through which a primary tumor develops into a secondary one at a distal place are termed “metastasis”. This is a chief cancer hallmark and results in failure of treatment, which ends up causing death. Apart from providing an overview of metastatic breast cancer (MBC), this chapter discusses the inclusion of MCT in the MBC treatment. Overall this chapter throws light on recent advances in BC treatment, clinical potency, and as the setbacks faced in the case of MBC.
