ABSTRACT

Ultimately, technology has successfully laid its foundation in education and plays a vital role in modern teaching–learning practices. Among the various technologies, Learning Management System (LMS) is being greatly insisted by the technologist for the effortless management of various organisations including education. Learning Management System is a software application which needs to be understood well before becoming its’ beneficiary. The primary use of a learning management system is for knowledge management (Brush, 2019). In specific, LMS is not just simple application that is used by software experts, but in turn, it is largely essential tool to manage the entire learning process. It ranges from managing training and educational records to distributing online or blended courses. Many colleges and universities have started using LMS to deliver online courses and augment on-campus courses. Even during this ongoing pandemic situation, educational institutions are striving to give their best to their students who are currently remote learners. Apart from learners/ students, teachers, and the organisation as a whole being benefited, it is feasible for the parents to check the progress of their children. In short, LMS could be represented as a multifaceted boon which has transformed into a mandatory domain of education, especially in the present scenario when lock down does not surprise us. However, it is evident that the LMS is not being utilised to its fullest potential. This chapter deals with the functional aspects of LMS along with the usability and accessibility facets that challenge the beneficiaries/stakeholders and the kind of role one needs to learn to make the fullest use of this integrated software application. This chapter also highlights the allied role played by the Learning Content Management System (LCMS).
