ABSTRACT

Medical image processing plays a crucial role in modern medicine by allowing healthcare professionals to visualise the internal structures and functions of the human body. The availability of a wide range of imaging modalities, such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and sonography, has revolutionised the way diagnoses are made and treatments are administered. Medical image processing involves various steps including image formation, computation, and management. The goal of medical image processing is to improve image quality, automate image analysis, and advance medical research and development. It has the potential to reduce healthcare costs but also faces challenges and limitations. This chapter gives an introduction to this discipline which promises to further evolve and make a significant impact on healthcare in the future.
