ABSTRACT

Self Compacting concrete (SCC) is a special type of concrete, which is easily workable and passing through the congested reinforcement and has an ability to compact by its own weight without any vibrators. It is also known as self consolidated concrete. SCC requires a high content of cement, aggregate, water and admixtures. Consuming more cement causes a greater amount of carbon dioxide to be released into the atmosphere, which has harmful environmental implications. To minimise these effects the agricultural by products can be utilised in concrete by alternative to cement. The presence of fine aggregate contributes more on the performance of SCC. Similarly fine particles which are present in binding material like agro waste such as sugarcane bagasse ash (SA), Rice husk ash(RA), palm oil fuel ash(POA), corn cob ash (CA) and wheat straw ash also increases the workability of SCC. The material characterization, physical characteristics, and chemical properties of the by-products are evaluated for their feasibility to match the pozzolanic behaviour. In this study a brief review about agricultural waste based SCC was done.
