ABSTRACT

The most promising substitute for cement has been identified as calcined clay. The enormous amount of calcined clay available can fulfil the rising demand for alternative cementitious materials. Being a very reactive pozzolan, calcined clay enhances early pore and microstructure development. The performance of blended cements tends to be affected significantly by the addition of limestone. Also, various research is in progress towards the use of limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) for replacing OPC. When compared to portland cement from an environmental standpoint, LC3 cement is a low carbon option. By lowering the clinker concentration and substituting LC3, it is possible to lower CO2 emissions during the cement making process. In this paper, comprehensive research that have undergone in the application of LC3 as a sustainable alternative material to replace OPC has been explored.
