ABSTRACT

Subarachnoid block is the most popular route of anaesthesia in parturient undergoing caesarean section. It’s an art of delicate handling; which comprises of adequate preloading, adequate dosage of drug and intrinsic monitoring thereby giving a jubilant aftermath in bringing a life to the world. Over the past decade, the incidence of caesarean section has drastically increased. National Family and Health Survey has shown that there is a notable increase in the rate of caesarean births in India. Between Jan 2015 and Dec 2016, the rate of caesarean delivery in India was found to be 17.2% where WHO recommendation was only 10–15%. With such increasing trends, it’s an immense task and a greater challenge for the anaesthesiologist to cater care in such a fashion which guarantees the safety to both the mother and fetus.(1) Maternal hypotension is a dreaded complication of subarachnoid block.
