ABSTRACT

This is a reflection on the chapter submitted anonymously by a woman (by the fictitious name of ‘Mary’) who has experienced trauma caused by system failures and cognitive biases. The story is harrowing because it is possible and familiar: we all have concerns about whether we providers will consider us as a whole person versus a number in a process line of a taxed healthcare system. A journey map depicts Mary’s experience, though no linear roadmap or two-dimensional representation can fully portray the extent of transition that occurs during traumatic times. I felt Mary’s pain, but I did not know it; I am glad that she told her story.
