ABSTRACT

Shipbuilding process contains many activities and these activities are performed in various work stations. Among these activities, block assembly operations play an important role in ship production. The blocks, which are subject to assembly processes in accordance with mounting sequence, are moved to slipway by using cranes and these bocks are erected at slipway. In this way, whole vessel steel hull structure is built. The lateness which may occur in block assembly area causes the blocks to be moved tardy to slipway. This is an unwanted thing in terms of shipyard. For this reason, the fabrication of blocks is needed to be completed as soon as possible. In this study, the steel structure production of blocks is considered. The production process of block steel structure is modeled on basis of simulation environment. By determining the operation processing times for the activities, simulation model will be created for block assembly area. Then, these times will be altered. In this way, it will be determined how long it takes to finish the production of the steel portion of the block and what actions cause bottlenecks.
